Guy's King's and St Thomas' (GKT) Students Fight Night March 10th 2024.
Four students from GKT, Charlie, Amir, Kai & Ailyn, signed up to fight night to raise money for Penguins Against Cancer (PAC).
OddBalls Foundation, a charity dedicated to raising awareness of testicular cancer were the benefactors with a £5000 grant being awarded by PAC following the efforts of the students. The event offered seven weeks of professional boxing training to a selection of students from across London, getting them ring-ready for fight night. The Clapham Grand crowd were dressed to impress and the night was full of entertainment.
Charlie & Amir had agreed to spray their hair blue and yellow if they raised more than £700. The target was reached but the yellow was more orange than expected!
Kai was in the first bout featuring GKT, this was a quick win and a great start. Charlie had to wait another five fights before entering the ring. A controversial decision resulted in a loss of a close contest. Kai then won his second fight of the night against an experienced opponent who had already won three times. Ailyn then lost by a close decision in an action packed fight which could have gone either way. Amir's fight was stopped in the second round by a technical knockout.
Despite more losses than wins everyone was in good spirits and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
